Or so I was told...
Yes, its 5:41 a.m. in Texas and I am blogging about cookies! But its cookies! How can you not want to read about cookies at 5:41 a.m ???? I blame a photog friend of mine for this early morning post. It all started when she invited me to help her out on one of her shoots and at the lunch table she and her client got into a conversation about cooking. They insisted that if you can bake then you can't cook or vice verse, and that it takes a very special person to do both, well... I guess I am special, because I believe I can do both! Actually, I know I can do both!!! Although, I really don't think it means I am special, it just means that I watch too much of the Food Network channel. Well that and I practically lived in the kitchen during the holidays when my mom would make baskets full of sweets to pass out to the neighbors and family. ANYWAY, it just so happens I have been on a cookie kick and trying to figure out how to make a Reese's pieces cookie. Yes I am a dork, I do try and invent new baking recipes. Its almost an obsession, so much so that I wake up in the middle of the night with dreams I had about recipes! So a few nights ago, I was struck with another food insomnia episode and started going over ideas on how to make this cookie (you don't have to burst my bubble, I am sure it has been done before), but this is what I came up with...

They are still not perfected yet, but I think I am getting close. The only bad thing is that now I have a kitchen full of cookies and I don't know what to do with them. Know anyone that is interested?

(Oh, and your probably wondering where the cooking comes into play, well in this post it doesn't. I didn't cook anything last night, I was too lazy and made Terry take me out for dinner. But I promise you I can be on an episode of "Throwdown" with Bobby Flay! Ok, I am not that good, but I know I can whip up some mean ham and cheese sandwiches! And my cereal is to die for!)

Californication Part II

It's 5 a.m and I can't sleep (typical), so I thought I would share more of my trip to California. Sound like fun? I thought so :p

We were suppose to do a bridal session as well, but unfortunately the dress wasn't ready when I arrived. So we all got to spend Sunday doing more sightseeing! I saw the famous Hollywood sign and even went down to Hollywood Blvd. It was different, not really what I expected, but I did find some things that interested me.

Amber told me that there would be street performers there, so my mind immediately went back to a college trip I took to New Orleans, L.A. and the street performers that worked on the streets there -mines, trumpet players, tap dancers, ect. I thought, "ok cool, nothing I haven't seen before." Ha! So we get there and there is Tinkerbell prancing in the street and I am like "whoa, seriously??" Next to her is Peter Pan with Cat Women not far behind, yes Cat Women (she was a real witch by the way). Anyway, Amber looks at me and said "see, I told you." And then I thought, "Duh, this is Hollywood." And in all Hollywood style, you have to pay for EVERYTHING, which this wasn't any different. You have to pay about 5 bucks just to take a picture of them (going back to why Cat Women was such a witch). And since I don't have 5 bucks to spear on wannabe actors in Halloween costumes they bought from Wal-Mart, I just threw on my wide angle and shot at the waist. They never knew what hit'em...

Ok, well these guys costumes were a little better than what you could of gotten at wally world, but still.

The next two weren't street performers, but still caught my interest...

See the sign? Crazy huh!?! And they probably cost as much a $200,000 house mortgage here in Texas!

At the end of the day I have to say I enjoyed California. And really really appreciate the generosity of Amber and Jonathan for flying me out there and showing me around. Thanks guys, you were awesome! See you October12th!

Californication

I'm back and so is the power! Although it decided to come back thirty minutes before I left for the airport to fly out to Los Angeles. Yes, Los Angeles! Awesome huh?!? I am lucky enough to have clients who live there, but are getting married in Houston. They have been wanting to do an engagement session, but weren't going to be back in town in time for it to happen. So we thought, if they can't come to me, then I can go to them! And so I did!

California was nice, beautiful weather, beautiful beaches, and beautiful people, just as expected. My mom even came with me; it was her birthday weekend, so I thought it would be nice to have her tag along and show her a good time. I was kind of nervous with this session, especially since I have just gone full time, and even though photography is not new to me, getting flown places to photograph is.

My mom and I flew in on Thursday night and met up with Amber and Johnathan, my amazing clients, to have a nice dinner at Don Antonio's. I do catch an episode every now and then, but was informed that this is the hot spot for Spencer and Heidi, from the MTV "reality" series, The Hills. The food was good, the chips and salsa was awesome. However, I really wish they served drinks Texas style. Diet coke is my beverage of choice (not like it helps since I am one of those that will order a double meat cheese burger with large fries and then try to save calories by drinking a diet coke, haha) and I am use to getting at least 12oz or more served to me at a time so I guess my waiter wanted to really work that night, because when he brought me my drink it was in what could of passed as a shot glass! I think I could of gone through four of them before our meal was even served! And I say "could of" because apparently waiters do not WAIT on you in California. They get your drinks, your meal order, and then serve it, and you never see them again until its time to pay. Crazy, I know. Anyway, after all was said and done, no Spencer and Heidi or any other celebrity for that matter. Amber said that they once saw Lindsay Lohan and her new girlfriend chowing down a few tables over, not that Lindsay Lohan is someone I really care about, but it would be interesting to see someone of the Hollywood world.

OH! And I was also informed that California doesn't know that Rotel and Velveeta do date occasionally and make an awesome thing called Chile Con Queso. Or what a breakfast burrito is either, wtf?!?

Anyway, Friday was spent scouting out locations and sightseeing. Amber and Jonathan were awesome and took the time to show my mom and me around. LA actually reminds me of New Mexico, but then they are all desert so I guess that’s why. The only thing that really made me see that I was several hundred miles away from home was the beaches!

I really wanted some awesome sunset shots over the water since you can't get that at Surfside, so Amber and Jonathan scouted for a beach that would allow some privacy and awesome photos. They said they found one and so we decided to go on Friday just to see the light and well just to see. After dealing with L.A. traffic for awhile, we finally turned in to this dirt parking lot that only had a few cars and a portal potty. I'll be honest, I was a little skeptical since we just passed up several beaches with nice creamy sand and blue-green water that had nice paved parking lots and real restrooms. But I saw the excitement on their faces when we finally arrived, like a small child showing off their prized art work, so I went with it… I got out of the car and saw that we were on a huge cliff. I am terrible with measuring distances, so just trust me when I say HUGE! They took me to the edge and my mouth just dropped. The view was crazy beautiful! I barely got my breath back before they told me to start walking down hill on a dirt path. The climb down wasn’t a walk in the park, but was soooooooo worth it! I got half way down and decided to stop watching my feet and actually look at where I was headed, O M G, amazing. There wasn’t just creamy sand, or blue green water, but gorgeous gigantic rocks that made a landscape that made me feel like I was in a different world. My mouth dropped for a second time.

I felt like a little girl again, I tried my best to runwalk the rest of the way with my mother shouting behind me “BECAREFUL” “WATCH YOUR STEP” “DON’T RUN, WALK.” I finally made it to the beach and finally just stopped and stood there trying to take it all in, the feeling of the wind coming off the water, the sound of the waves crashing up against the rocks, and the feeling of the sand between my toes. And just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, we found starfish! Yes, real live starfish! Several of them, all anchored down on the rocks waiting for the tied to come in. I don’t think I have ever had a day end so perfectly.

But that feeling only lasted for a few minutes. As I was trying to act out my fantasy of being a marine biologist, I ended up in almost calf deep in recently ice melted water or at least that’s what it felt like! It was so cold you could probably get frostbite from it! I didn’t know beach water could be so cold! Of course Amber and Jonathan had a good laugh from my reaction, but a warning would have been nice, hahaha.

Saturday was the actual session day. We decided to shoot a little at Rodeo drive; that was an experience! I never knew a camera with a big lens could bring soo much attention. I even had one lady ask if I was with the press. If she was Jewel (my favorite musician) or anyone else I knew I would of said yes. I had people stop me just to talk about my equipment. Poor Amber and Jonathan kept getting stared at with people trying to figure out if they were famous or not. We even had people take pictures of us taking pictures; it was crazy!

Anyway, I think the session really went well. I wish we had more time to shoot, since California does offer some pretty scenery, but all things good do have to come to an end. So with that being said, I will stop my boring chatter and show you some of my favs from that weekend…

Hurricane Ike

We survived! Although, we don't have electricity and are trying to survive on peanut butter and goldfish. Pearland has some stores open, we got to eat at Friday's the other day thankfully, it was nice to feel normal, if it was only 30 minutes.

Anyway, I just wanted to touch base with the rest of the world and let you know that I hope everyone that was effected by Ike is doing well and is ok.

Since I don't have power, I had to hunt down a wireless signal just to post this update. So please be patience while I work on getting up and running again. I am at the mercy of Centerpoint, but I know they are working hard and around the clock to get power restored to all of us.

For my clients, because of this little bump, please understand that orders placed or deadlines for pictures that needed to be posted will be delayed until things are restored and normal around here. And please note, that yes, your photographs are safe and sound :)

Again, I hope you all are doing well. I hope to be in touch soon. If you do have a question, please do not hesitate to text me. My phone seems to only be doing well when it comes to texting.

OMG, its already September! Where did the time go??? I guess time fly's by when you are having fun! And I have been having fun! Yes, I am still working on the website and yes, I do have several several things I need to post, but no, I don't have the time! Which is a good thing, right?

Well, an old friend got on to me for not giving him anything new to look at, so I thought that 4 in the morning would be the perfect time to blog something, hahaha. Wow, I can't believe its 4 already! Seriously, I need time in a bottle...

So I was going through some images that I got a few weekends ago shooting with Howie from SB Image Studios and started to notice that alot of my favs had a running theme. So I went with it and created a slideshow, enjoy!

Hello everyone! Well, I finally took the big jump and am officially a full-time photographer! So with that being said, there will be several changes to Perspectives in the coming months. Currently, I am working on a new website, which is why the old one isn't working properly. I will be announcing new pricing and displaying a new logo, and photographs!

I am so excited about all of this, but it is going to take some time to get everything up and running, so I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and truly appreciate your understanding.

Wedding at the Westin Hotel in Houston, Texas

I was a second last Saturday for SB image studios and had the chance to help photograph a very cute bride and a very beautiful wedding. The Westin has an amazing reception hall, it is filled with huge windows that over look the city and is absolutely gorgeous at night! But I think the best part of the day was the bride getting ready. The hotel room had huge windows that were covered with thin white screens creating a photographers heaven! The light from it was sooooo pretty, I couldn't help getting excited over it. I think at that point I knew I was a photography nerd. Although I know the bridal party thought I was probably just crazy, hahaha.

Anyway, here are several of my favorites...

I have to admit that this was the best bouquet toss I have yet to experience, these girls get serious when it comes to flowers!

Rice University Bridals

Well Jessica got married on Saturday, July 5th, so I am finally able to share some of her bridals we did at Rice University! Bridals are usually under lock and key until after the wedding. You never want to create a chance where the groom can get a sneak peek at his beautiful bride before the wedding day.
Anyway, the location and lighting was soooo much fun to play with! I will be 2nd shooting a wedding that will actually be held in the chapel at Rice University at the end of the month, so I can't wait to see the out come of that!

Bay City Wedding ♦

I got asked to be a second shooter for Steve Hoyles of Studio 979 a few weekends back for a Bay City wedding and I just thought I share a few. Now, I don't always do EVERYTHING in black and white, but it is my first love and since I was only the 2nd shooter I thought I would just have fun and do things my way. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE color, but sometimes your just in a black and white mood :)

Oh, and just in case your wondering, I was assigned to shoot the bride the majority of the day so that is why there are so many of her, although she was such a beautiful girl it would be hard not to photograph her!

A very hot wedding!

Literally! I shot with a very talented photographer,Holly Mikel, a few weekends ago and not only was it just HOT outside, but the reception, held at the Cherotel, had no A/C! The hotel was having problems with their a/c unit and instead of cold air it was pumping out hot air! But that didn't stop the party or anyone from having a great time. Anyway, I just wanted to share a few of my favs...

My brother was apart of his high school friends wedding this past weekend and asked me to take some pictures of him in his tux. I drove the hour it took to get to the reception, which was held at the Wharton County Fairgrounds, so it was pretty far out there! The fair wasn't much to look at, but the beautiful Texas countryside never ceases to inspire me. Luckily I was able to pull my brother away from the booze and women just in time for some amazing sun and cloud action! Although he didn't give me but 2 minutes to shoot! I honestly have to say that that was my shortest session ever!

I am sooo excited to announce that I finally got my 5D!!!! I have been wanting one for the longest time! Along with a 580ex II and a 24-70mm 2.8/L and of coarse a new bag! I'm a girl, so no outfit is complete without the right bag! I got to use the 5D at a wedding last weekend, but I would rather share the pictures I took of my little demons. Don't let those sweet faces fool you! They are not innocent!

Just a heads up...

I just wanted to give you all a heads up on my current situation. This past weekend, my brother was in a bad accident and was life flighted to Herman Memorial. I got the dreaded call on Thursday afternoon and rushed to the scene to pick up my mom so I could drive her to the hospital. After several LONG hours in the emergency room he was released to go home. Thankfully everyone involved will be ok and just walked away with several stitches. I have never experienced anything as terrifying as I did that day. I don't think my family has ever experienced anything as terrifying. I thank God and his angels for being there for both families.

With that said, I had to take a few days off to help out with my brother and just be there with my family. So please understand that orders on prints and other related services have been delayed because of this. I appreciate you alls understanding and I will work hard to catch up and be in contact with you all soon.

Roberts Grad announcement

Robert and I finished customizing his graduation announcement the other night and I just want to share :)

Its going to be 5X7 and printed like a post card. So it doesn't open like a card, you just get awesome pictures in the front and then flip it over for the details. He plans to put them in black envelopes with them addressed in sliver pen, VERY COOL! I can't wait to see the finished product!

So Lindsey, one of my favorite clients, called me up and asked me to do a special session with her and her boyfriends street bike! Since I have never done one before I couldn't refuse. It was cold, windy, and very very cloudy, but Lindsey held it together and was amazing. Steve Hoyles, a very talent photographer based in Lake Jackson, came out to help me with some off camera lighting. I think the results were awesome! I can't wait to do something like this again!

Well, Terry and I celebrated our 6 year anniversary on the 10th! We usually just eat at a nice restaurant, maybe go to some little event, and then exchange cards at the end of the day. HOWEVER, He thought he would would spice things up this year. First he had a dozen roses waiting for me when I came home from work on Friday, then showed me the tickets he bought to the Houston Ballet's performance of the Nutcracker. Then, to top it off, he surprised me with a beautiful diamond "Love Grows" heart necklace! HEHE, he cracks me up, because every time he goes to give me something big he is always so nervous and it is written all over his face that he has something up his sleeve, but this time I had no idea!

Of course I just had my silly little card to give him at the end of the night :(. Oh well, just means I have to make up for it at Christmas!!!!

Anyway, I had to take pictures so here ya go!

Going back to college...

I was asked to do a college senior session for a old college roommate. So we drove to Huntsville and I got to visit SHSU for a few hours- man I miss that place! Really made me wish I could go back to college, well... only if I could change the fact that being a college student = being poor! Thankfully, I can now CHOOSE to eat frozen dinners and not be forced to.

Anyway, here are some pictures from the session. Congratulations Maria or should I say, Ms. Leija :) ! You were a great model and I know you will be an even better teacher! And another thanks to Amanda for helping with the reflector, I couldn't of done it without you!

Happy Halloween!!!

So its 11:40p.m. and I just got the last bit of white makeup off my face. Terry and I got a little crazy this year, but we had no choice! Promise! Our new neighborhood is filled with kids and what else is there to do but dress up and scare them on Halloween??? Sadly, we got alot of baby's in strollers and several that could barely walk. Although, the last group made it sooo worth it! It was a group of 5 or 6 and the youngest decided to be brave and walk up first, but as soon as he saw Fred he yelled, and I quote "Forget THIS!" and shot off down the street with hands in the air and candy being tossed behind him! I was trying hard not to fall on the ground laughing. His friends had to coax him back only for him to be scared again as soon as he saw Terry. I don't think Terry and I have ever laughed so hard! Man I love Halloween!

Anyway, I don't have pictures of the kids, but I do have some of Terry and me and the decorations...

So I got the opportunity to shoot with a very fun and talented photographer, Carolyn Jones, on Monday. Unfortunately I was working over an hour away, so I was only able to make the last 20 to 30 minutes of the shoot. Although, I got to hang out with a friend, test out the new lens, and even got a few images, so I would call that a good evening!

I know that you can't really see the ring (I'll be sure to get a closer shot at the wedding), but I really really love it! I made sure to show Terry so he knew what to look for, that is if he ever decides to look! Hahaha...

Tina was a true soldier! At 97 degrees and high humidity, she still was able to look beautiful and wear her wedding dress! I have been wanting to post them for awhile, but had to wait until after the wedding. I didn't want to take the chance of the groom stealing a sneak peek of his beautiful bride.

Terry and I shot her wedding yesterday with some friends and had lots of fun! So congratulations to Tina and Oscar!

I will post some of the wedding pictures here in the near future, so don't go far!

A few more from Saturday....

The last three were taken at Jetty Park! The tide was so low that it allowed us to wade out into the Freeport Harbor! Although next time I think I will buy some water shoes - the rocks were killer on the feet!

*Side note* I just wanted to send a special thanks to Christie Lacy for making this an open invite on the Texas Photo Forum and putting this all together! The models were great, the locations were great, and so was the company! Again, Terry and I had a great time and can't wait to do it again!

This is Myra! She was one of the models that volunteered to come out on Saturday for the Texas Photo Forum "Trash the Dress" get together. We were expecting rain, but got sun instead, lots of it! Terry and I got soo burnt, but it was well worth it. It was lots of fun to meet people from the forum and just hang out. I think I chatted more than I shot, but here are a few that I did get.

So I have been wanting to do a Trash the Dress session for awhile and finally found the perfect candidate. Does she look familiar? Yeah I use her alot, but she is just too awesome not to! So, Lindsey and I traveled to Downtown Houston and just had fun. We wandered onto construction sites, under overpasses, and the reflection pool of City Hall - it was a blast! We even had a small crowd gather when she jumped into the pool, it was really funny. People had those "what the heck??" type of looks on their faces - it was hilarious!

Soo.... we found the perfect house! However, its a brand new house and since we are going to be renting we are afraid they are not going to want pets or pets Coco's size. So Terry and I thought that we would make a little info sheet about Coco to turn in with our application. Well, it started as a small paragraph with a few pictures and some how ended up as this!

We have problems.... but this should get their attention!

This is Gorgeous - my new kitty! She is about 6 weeks and just the cutest thing I have ever seen, but aren't they all when they are this size. Either way, I had fun taking her and her friends on a fun photo shoot(hehe).

This is Coco, my adorable Pit Bull mix. I was feeling a little down in the dumps today, but she always knows how to put a smile on my face. Terry and I have been looking for a new home and decided to look at apartments in Pearland. Sadly, we were turned away because of Coco's breed. I wish more people would take the time to learn about this breed and not discriminate because of bad press. I truly believe that there are only bad owners and not bad dogs.

This one made my side hurt! How can you not love this face???

I can't stop saying how proud I am of this guy! He has worked soo hard and now he has his Masters along with a job with one of the biggest accounting firms, PWC. He is smart and cute, but sorry ladies, he is already taken :) The good ones always are...
